“Watching-the-world-go-by”

It has to be said that relaxing in the sunshine is a popular sport in Hondon. It’s a great place to unwind, recharge your batteries, get a tan, make new friends, eat good food and enjoy your holiday without the hassle of the tourist crowds.

But if you want more action, then it’s not too far away. Come here during the summer and you will be spoilt for choice of spectacular Fiestas (which the Spanish excel in).

The busiest time is of course, during the spring and summer months when more people love to enjoy the outdoor activities. The days are very sunny, long and hot so the local bars, plazas and swimming areas are the coolest places to chill out.

When in Spain … “Tranquilo”

Hondon is not a place to be rushing around, especially in the summer!  I suggest you follow the local Spaniards, they know what they are doing!   … maybe an early rise to do some work or chores, followed by a late al-fresco breakfast of “pan de tomate” or “churros” with a “cafe con leche”.  Then a trip to the many local markets for that day’s food, followed by lunch, usually a “menu del dia” or lovely selection of tapas, beer or local wine with family and friends… Then the midday sun will charm you into a restful siesta by the pool or under a parasol… BLISS !

Family Friendly Place

The summers nights are typical Mediterranean, balmy with cool breezes and much more comfortable if you wish to dress up (not necessary though). The local residents, Expats, friends and relatives all congregate in the Plazas for drinks, food, music and family get togethers. The local bars and restaurants cater for the many different foreign visitors we have during the summer as well as children.

As holiday makers you will have plenty of  family games, BBQs or parties on the terrace. Or you can book into a local restaurant for the Al-a-carte menus.

You’ll also notice the local Spaniards do not go out until late – maybe 10pm onwards. But the local restaurants are well aware the tourists like to eat and drink a lot earlier. Some offer “early-bird” menus or hot & cold snacks, which are usually excellent value and very tasty.

Filling Up at the Watering Holes

The main restaurants in nearby Hondon de los Frailes are VienteOcho (28), a modern bar serving all day breakfast, lunch, bar snacks, tapas and Al a carte dinners. We have an Italian / International in “La Buena Vida” evenings (lunch in summer months) and “La Finca Romero” in nearby Barbarroja, lovingly transformed from an old tanning house, they offer quality and varied menus daily with regular music and community events. » More about local Restaurants.

Frailes also boasts a Tapas Restaurant “Rayca’s”, an Indian takeaway, a steak-house, “Caramels” music bar, and the Irish Bar to name just a few. Most of the local restaurants offer “Menu del Dia” – a three course lunch with a drink, usually less than €10, although the dish choices may be limited and the quality does vary.

Many people also enjoy the short drive to Hondon de las Nieves where you can find more shops, bars and restaurants such as Bar Central, Bamboo, Rocas, La Font.
