Sometimes one has to smile, if not laugh, while some experts go on about global warming when we have just had the coldest January in the fifteen years we have been in this beautiful part of Spain. We still have vivid memories of our family visiting, year after year in the first few months of the year and going back home with a tan, after lying in the sun by the pool. Stronger Pound: But despite the recent cold winds we have had a nice warm feeling as the Pound rises against the Euro and our pensions improve because of the increase. Thankfully...

A few days ago I had taken Meg, she is our little mongrel dog down the campo (fields) to the rear of our villa. The almond trees were in full blossom, a beautiful pink contrast with a perfect blue sky – a stunning sight in itself. I stopped for a while and there was not a sound – perfect silence. Then somewhere down in the valley I could see a tractor, doing what tractors do going up and down a piece of ground, however the noise it was making did not carry to where I stood. It occurred to me that is what the totally detached property...

My latest thriller: “Watchit Too” has arrived from the publishers this week (in paperback). The cover looks stunning! I am grateful to Derek Cook, my cover designer for his work. This time he went with the lady again that appears on the front of the prequel ‘Watchit’ however he changed the colour of her dress from a bright red to a gold/green (I don’t think she minded) anyway it suits her a lot better and the background gives an in-depth feel to it. No doubt with my new novel “The Main Course” Derek will come up...

Haircuts: I am not certain why people go on about haircuts?!? My wife and I were in the local village Hondon de los Frailes the other day when we were approached by a friend who said he was on the way to get his hair cut. I said something like it is not my best subject. You spend months growing it and someone cuts it off in a few minutes. Anyway I think it is the method in which people communicate without talking and I am sure my darling wife reads my mind because I have long hair! Winter Fuel: Talking about cuts I understand the British...

“Hi Jean and Percy … Now a a very big thank you to both of you, we really enjoyed our stay with you. Loved the the house and of course the landlord and landlady were great… Ivor would like to know how the building is progressing. Ivor says we could do with some of you Hondon heat. Today we have had rain, sun, and cold. Thanks again. Love from both of us.” – Ivor and Janet

The feeling of the Second World War came to the village (Hondon de los Frailes) last night. Let me explain – in my novel Blitz & Pieces I describe what it was like to live through the terror of the Blitz in East London by the German Aircraft. I was six years old at the time and remember it clearly. In the evening we would sit around the coal fire in the living room (providing we had any fuel) when all of a sudden the air raid warning would sound and we would make our way to the shelter. The feeling would flood through you of not...
